A. Namaste. Celibacy is not a requirement of this path. Many practitioners of Maha Yoga are involved in stable relationships and marriages which involve sexual intimacy. For many, however, celibacy is the best option or may evolve naturally over time. Realization occurs when one becomes free of physical desires and the constant drive for ego-gratification. For many it can be very challenging to be free of desire and ego while seeking for sexual gratification or dating. You will not be questioned on your sex life in relation to this path. What is important is to be honest with yourself. If your relationship is not impeding your sadhana it is fine. If your lifestyle is not allowing you to focus on sadhana and the goal of realization then you should make the appropriate changes. While many beings who achieve realization are celibate there are certainly examples of those engaged in family life who achieve the same, for example Sri Lahiri Mahasaya, the guru of Sri Yukteswar Giri mentioned in Paramahansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi.
Maha Yoga is available to anyone. All beings are Brahman. There is no distinction or labels in pure consciousness including heterosexual or homosexual. The storylines of the individual that arise, be they heterosexual or homosexual, are irrelevant in this path and in realization. The same message stated above applies equally to those who identify as homosexuals. Celibacy may or may not arise but the lifestyle and actions should be examined in relation to their impact on sadhana.
Some schools teach that homosexuality or sexual activity in general will distort Kundalini. This implies that Grace has some sort of quality which can be influenced by the storyline of duality. This is absolutely untrue. Grace is not dependent on illusion. Grace has been and will be, it's revealation is dependent only on surrender of the seeker.
